HA NOI (VNS) — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday said the visit by Sally Jewell, Secretary of the US Department of the Interior, would significantly bolster co-operation between the two countries.
Receiving Jewell in Ha Noi, he hailed the outcomes of the working sessions she had held with Vietnamese officials.
He affirmed that it was Viet Nam's consistent wish to work with the US towards effective development of a comprehensive partnership that would serve mutual interests and promote peace, stability, co-operation and development in the region and the world.
Referring to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, Dung urged both sides to continue the negotiations with goodwill and necessary flexibility alluded to by President Obama in previous meetings with Vietnamese officials.
Dung said the agreement was not only significant for boosting economic, trade and investment ties, but also carried strategic significance by creating a foundation for sustainable and long-term development of bilateral relations.

He expressed the hope that the US would continue collaborating with Viet Nam in the fields of education and training, science and technology, defence, security, culture and people-to-people exchange while helping deal with the impacts of dioxin and unexploded ordnances (UXOs), protect wild animals, and respond to climate change.
Secretary Jewell said the US government was committed to supporting Viet Nam's sustainable development into an independent and strong country.
On wildlife protection, the main purpose of her working visit, wildlife protection, Jewell spoke highly of Vietnam's commitment to combating wildlife trafficking. She affirmed that the US was willing to support, co-operate and share information with Viet Nam in this area. It would also coordinate with Viet Nam in initiatives that promote sustainable use of water resources and climate change adaptation, including rising sea levels, she said. The US would also co-operate with Viet Nam in carrying out geological studies, she added.
She pledged to convey Viet Nam's proposals on bilateral co-operation in dealing with the aftermath of dioxin and UXOs to US government officials. — VNS
