PM receives Japanese envoy ahead of summit

HA NOI  (VNS) — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung hosted a reception for Japanese Ambassador to Viet Nam Hiroshi Fukada in Ha Noi yesterday, on the threshold of his working visit to Japan to attend the 7th Mekong – Japan Summit.

The PM said the event was of great importance for both Japan and Mekong countries, reflecting the increasing role played by Japan in the region.

Viet Nam attached special importance to the summit and believed that the event would open up new opportunities and potentials for co-operation between Japan and the Mekong Sub-region, he said.

Dung also affirmed that Viet Nam wanted to work closely with Japan in effectively implementing agreements reached by the two Governments.

He said that he expected to discuss both bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual concern during talks with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe.

Ambassador Hiroshi informed the host about Japan's preparations for the summit as well as for bilateral meetings between PM Dung and Japanese leaders early next month. — VNS
