Sympathy offered for late Cambodian leader

HA NOI (VNS)b — Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited the Cambodian Embassy in Viet Nam yesterday to offer his deepest sympathies over the the death of President of the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and President of the Senate Chea Sim.

In his note in the book of condolences, the Vietnamese leader highlighted what an excellent leader Chea Sim had been for Cambodia, and the important contributions he made to peace and national unity, as well as construction and development.

The death of the Cambodian leader was a great loss to Cambodia, and Viet Nam had lost a close friend who made important contributions to the development of the traditional solidarity, friendship and comprehensive co-operation between the Communist Party of Viet Nam and the CPP, as well as the two States and peoples, he said.

On the same day, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan, Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment and Vice President of the Viet Nam-Cambodia Co-operation Subcommittee Nguyen Chi Dung, representatives from the Ministries of Defence and Public Security and a number of other agencies also expressed their condolences in the book. — VNS
