PM strengthens trade relations with Bulgaria

SOFIA (VNS) — Visiting Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has pushed Bulgarian investment towards hi-tech agriculture, pharmaceuticals, clean energy and mechanical engineering in Viet Nam.

Attending the Viet Nam–Bulgaria business dialogue in Sofia on Friday, he also called for increased exports of Vietnamese farm produce, electronics, garments and imports of Bulgarian food, pharmaceuticals and machines.

He said Viet Nam was a vibrant economy and an attractive investment destination which was integrating into the global economy, adding that Viet Nam and Bulgaria were long-time partners and that more than 4,000 Vietnamese experts were trained in the European country.

Bulgaria is investing in 10 projects worth about US$31 million in engineering and information technology in Viet Nam.

PM Dung said he also appreciated its role of connecting Central-South European economies with Asian counterparts, including Viet Nam.

While answering queries from the Bulgarian business community, he explained Viet Nam's incentives to foreign investors and its response to the global economic crisis.

He supported the new Viet Nam–Bulgaria economic co-operation proposed by Bulgarian President and said a working group would examine the model.

On Saturday, PM Dung met the chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, Mikhail Mikov, who wished to push for even stronger bilateral ties with Viet Nam.

He also met Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev and Bulgarian NA Vice President and Chairman of the Bulgaria-Viet Nam Friendship Parliamentarians' Association, Yavor Iliev Haytov. The Vietnamese leader also met members of the overseas Vietnamese community and embassy staff.

PM Dung left for Viet Nam on Saturday, concluding his visits to Kazakhstan, Algeria, Portugal and Bulgaria from May 29. — VNS
