HA NOI (VNS) — Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai welcomed visiting Vice President of the World Bank (WB) Joachim von Amsberg in Ha Noi yesterday.
He requested the WB to grant Viet Nam a transitional period after the upcoming end of the bank's International Development Association-17 (IDA-17) programme for poor and under-developed countries.
Hailing Viet Nam's development achievements, Amsberg said that the WB was studying new initiatives to support the nation's future growth.
The World Bank considers Viet Nam a good example of efficient use of loans, making it easier for the bank to persuade donors to contribute more for the nation's development assistance programmes, Amsberg said.
Forthcoming negotiations on credit in the post-IDA-17 period will be conducted in the spirit of boosting Viet Nam's development, he added. — VNS
