HA NOI (VNS) — Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Viet Nam People's Army, yesterday welcomed General Worapong Sanganetra, Chief of Defence Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, during his official visit to Viet Nam.

The visit, which ends today, was designed to allow the Thai defence chief to introduce his new position to Vietnamese military leaders, a practice observed throughout ASEAN.

At talks, Ty expressed his hope that the General would make fresh, practical, and efficient contributions to defence co-operation between the two countries.

Bilateral defence affiliation has grown extensively, especially after an agreement in 2012, which promoted exchanges, personnel training, communication, joint patrols at sea, and search and rescue activities, Ty said.

The two officers discussed national, regional, and global situations as well as issues that could affect security and defence of each country and the whole of ASEAN.

They also worked on orientations and measures to bolster army co-operation. — VNS
