Lieutenant Ty praised the visit of the top US Navy leader as a move to strengthen the partnership between the two armed forces and navies to mark the 20th anniversary of the normalisation of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Defence ties between the two countries have been growing in recent years, he said, adding that the two navies had fostered collaboration in training, search and rescue, military medicine and ensuring maritime security and safety.
Navy secretary Mabus said that the potential for bilateral naval co-operation was high. He said the exchange of delegations at all levels and joint activities between the two navies would contribute to fostering the partnership. — VNS
