HA NOI (VNS) — National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung has proposed that Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) leaders continue promoting ties with the assembly.

Hung also asked them to support and create favourable conditions for Viet Nam at parliamentary forums and in the union.

Meeting with IPU Secretary-General Martin Chungong in Ha Noi yesterday, he thanked himl and the IPU Secretariat for helping Viet Nam organise the 132nd assembly of the union.

Chungong praised Viet Nam for successfully hosting the IPU-132, saying it was done professionally.

He added that the success of the event had raised the position of the IPU among international organisations.

Chungong said it was an important time to review the operations of the IPU Assembly and determine future growth. The secretariat will compile all documents from the assembly, deliver them to parliamentarians and post them on the IPU website.

An official note and the Ha Noi Declaration will also be sent to the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, to incorporate into the UN agenda, highlighting the host country's message to the international community and bolstering sustainable development goals, said Chungong.

He said he appreciated the efforts of the National Assembly and Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung in organising the event, which left strong impressions on delegates. — VNS
