HA NOI (VNS) — President Truong Tan Sang hosted today a reception for members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) executive committee who are in Ha Noi to attend the 132nd IPU Assembly (IPU-132).

Welcoming the Union's selection of Viet Nam as the host of the IPU-132, he said he believed that the outcomes of the event would create a fresh impulse for each member's growth, for a world of peace and development.

He also expressed his hope that the Ha Noi Declaration to be sent to the United Nations General Assembly would have great significance to underdeveloped countries and help narrow the development gap among nations.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly, since its participation in the IPU, was always an active member standing ready to make more contributions to the organisation.

IPU President Saber Chowdhury highlighted the significance of the Ha Noi Declaration since it would serve as a foundation for the UN in outlining a target programme on sustainable development.
