HA NOI (VNS) — President Truong Tan Sang, accompanied by his wife and a high-ranking delegation, will begin a three-day official visit to Laos today.
The visit is made at the invitation of the General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and State President Chummaly Sayasone.
The President's entourage includes Deputy Minister of Investment and Planning Nguyen Chi Dung, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Dang Minh Khoi and Deputy Minister of Public Security Tran Viet Tan.
Viet Nam and Laos established diplomatic ties in 1962 and signed a Friendship and Cooperation Treaty in 1977.
Trade between the two countries reached US$1.58 billion in 2014, a 34.5 per cent year-on-year increase. The two nations seek to lift this to $2 billion this year.
Viet Nam has poured over $5 billion in Laos, becoming one of the largest investors in the country. — VNS
