President pays Tet visit to Lao Cai

LAO CAI (VNS)— President Truong Tan Sang praised the Provincial Party Committee, the armed forces and ethnic minorities of the northern province of Lao Cai for their large contributions to national construction and defence.

Sang spoke his praise at a meeting to mark the 85 th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Viet nam yesterday in Lao Cai Province.

"Though facing many difficulties and challenges both from inside and outside the country, Lao Cai successfully fulfilled its assigned tasks in 2014. Several major projects were completed and put into commission, particularly the Noi Bai-Lao Cai express way.

The express way is a big opportunity for the province to develop rapidly in the coming years", Sang said.

He asked the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee to continue its robust efforts in 2015 so as to ensure a successful provincial party congress in the lead up to the 12th national party congress slated for 2016.

Sang also urged the Provincial Party Committee to continue the province's efforts to realise President Ho Chi Minh's teachings and to fully implement one of the Party's resolutions which calls on local party cells to improve their leadership and fighting capacity.

He also called on Lao Cai Province to further promote its socio-economic development, to improve the people's livelihoods.

"I'm confident that the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee, People's Committee and its people will build upon their strong tradition of unity," said Sang, adding that their efforts are, "turning Lao Cai into a developed province of the North-Western region of Viet Nam."

While in Lao Cai, the President paid tet visits to government offices, army units, families and some poor households.

President Sang presented gifts to families who are recognized as having rendered great services to the nation during the war for national liberation.

Sang also presented gifts to teachers and pupils at the Ban Qua primary school in Bat Sat District, a district that exemplifies the recent successful development of rural areas in the province.

He asked the Lao Cai provincial authorities to work hard to ensure that people in the province, particularly disadvantaged people and those who live in remote areas, have joyous tet celebrations.— VNS
