HA NOI (VNS) — Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh yesterday welcomed Michael Michalak, former United States Ambassador to Viet Nam, at the Ministry of Defence's headquarters in Ha Noi.

They agreed that 2015 was an important year during which the two countries will continue their trust-building process towards a stronger relationship in the future.

Viet Nam and the United States are celebrating the 20th anniversary of normalisation of diplomatic relations this year.

Vinh and Michalak appreciated the growing comprehensive partnership between the two countries, especially in defence co-operation.

They said co-operation should be stepped in implementing the Memorandum on Bilateral Defence Co-operation signed by both countries in 2011.

They also discussed stronger collaboration in other areas including addressing post-war outcome in Viet Nam.
