Stay united to keep VN secure: PM

HA NOI (VNS) — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has called on the nation's citizenry and political apparatus, including agencies at all levels, to join hands in safeguarding the nation's territorial sovereignty and ensuring border security.

In Directive 01/CT-TTg issued on January 9, he asks provincial administrations in border areas and coastal cities to co-ordinate with the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the Defence Ministry (MoD) and the Public Security Ministry (Moof Public Security (MoPS) to spread the sovereignty protection movement across thent.

He also called on each household and individual to voluntarily engage in the protection of territorial sovereignty and ensuring security and order in border areas.

The MoD has been directed to work with the Coast Guard, the Navy and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to facilitating offshore fishing and carrying out rescue operations towards defending the nation's seas and islands.

The Ministry of Information and Communications will work with the MoD and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to formulate regular and long-term plans and raise public awareness of national defense issues.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education and Training will collaborate with the MoD and the MoPS to include protection of national sovereignty in school curricula. — VNS
