NA Chairman meets IPU head

HA NOI (VNS)  — Viet Nam would do its utmost to successfully organise the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly next year in Ha Noi, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said yesterday at a meeting with the union's new Secretary General, Martin Chungong, in Ha Noi.

Hung congratulated Chungong on his appointment and said he hoped the IPU would assist Viet Nam organise the event.

Chungong said IPU strongly supported Viet Nam in international parliamentary activities, adding that the union was building an information system and database network to support its operations.

He spoke highly of Viet Nam's preparation for the meeting next year, especially in terms of programme building, security, medical care and communication.

Chungong was the first international distinguished guest to attend the National Assembly meeting in the new National Assemly building. — VNS
