President greets ambassadors

HA NOI (VNS) — President Truong Tan Sang hosted receptions in Ha Noi yesterday for the newly appointed ambassadors of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Norway.

Welcoming the British Ambassador, Giles Lever, President Sang said Viet Nam always valued its ties with his country.

The State leader said he hoped Britain would help accelerate the signing of a free trade agreement (FTA) between Viet Nam and the European Union, and boost effective investment in Viet Nam .

In his meeting with Dutch Ambassador Catharina Trooster, Sang suggested the two sides intensify links in agriculture, culture, people-to-people exchanges, maritime trade and responses to climate change.

He said he believed Trooster would help implement agreements signed during the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte's visit to Viet Nam in June.

He said Viet Nam would ease the way for Dutch investment in Viet Nam in the hope the country would become an important investment partner.

Receiving Norwegian Ambassador Gjerme Eriksen, Sang thanked Norway for providing official development assistance (ODA).

He spoke highly of bilateral co-operation in trade and the economy, adding that he hoped Norway would support negotiations to devise a Free Trade Agreement between Viet Nam and Northern Europe. — VNS
