HA NOI (VNS)— Vice-chairwoman of the National Assembly, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, has appealed to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for further assistance in protecting children.
Specificially, she asked the organisation to help perfect Viet Nam's legal framework on the protection of children, and in enhancing parliament's supervision of the implementation of children's rights.
During a meeting with UNICEF's Viet Nam representative, Youssouf Adbel-Jelil, in Ha Noi yesterday, Ngan praised the co-operation between the National Assembly and the organisation.
She said she hoped UNICEF would continue addressing child issues in Viet Nam, including infant mortality, malnutrition, access to clean water, HIV/AIDS and education.
Adbel-Jelil offered to provide continuing help to Viet Nam and congratulated the nation on its accomplishments in protecting and caring for children, as well as its progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals.— VNS
