HA NOI (VNS) — Viet Nam will promote further economic co-operation with Cuba, particularly in trade and investment, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said yesterday.

Welcoming the Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz, in Ha Noi yesterday, Dung said there was vast potential.

He added that the signing of a mid-term co-operation programme would lay the growth.

Dung said the Viet Nam-Cuba Inter-Governmental Committee would implement the accelerated programme.

He said the Vietnamese Government supported co-operation in telecommunications and agriculture, adding that Viet Nam would create favourable conditions for its businesses to invest in Cuba.

The Cuban minister agreed that his country wanted to expand collaboration with Viet Nam in these two sectors, plus foreign direct investment and the establishment of industrial and export processing zones.

He said Cuba would continue to fine tune its preferential policies and mechanisms for Vietnamese investors. — VNS
