HA NOI (VNS) — President Truong Tan Sang yesterday held a meeting in Ha Noi with 85 chairpersons of grassroots trade unions from across Viet Nam, highlighting their significant responsibility in protecting the rights and interests of workers amid the country's integration with the global economy.

The event took place on the occasion of the 85th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour (July 28).

The participants included 33 trade union chairpersons from the administrative sector and 52 from the business community.

At the meeting, the leaders shared their professional experience and conveyed the aspirations of union members.

President Sang spoke highly of the group's effort in fulfilling their duties, adding that the State and the Party paid special attention to the development of workers and trade unions.

He said the submitted proposals would be considered to improve the operation of trade unions, which needed to actively consult with workers to protect their legitimate interests.

The leader also said he hoped that the commended individuals would set good examples for others to follow nationwide.
