HA NOI (VNS) — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged newly-appointed ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to make active contributions to national construction and defence and socio-economic development.

Meeting the diplomats yesterday before they left for overseas, Dung said they should pay attention to strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between Viet Nam and the rest of the world and making full use of international support for Viet Nam's position, especially in safeguarding national sovereignty.

At the same time, they should work to expand export markets, boost Vietnamese investment overseas and attract foreign cash flows to the country, particularly in the field of clean and high technology.

Dung also called on them to promote culture, education, science-technology, security and defence partnerships with the host countries.

The same day, the diplomats were also received by Chairman of the National Assembly, Nguyen Sinh Hung, who said they would help boost parliamentary co-operation between Vietnam and other countries, serving the upcoming hosting of the 123rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Ha Noi next year. — VNS
