HA NOI  (VNS) — Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh received Evan Medeiros, Special Assistant to US President Barack Obama, in Ha Noi yesterday.

Officials said Medeiros's visit is aimed at finding measures for the US and Viet Nam to bolster their comprehensive partnership to work for peace, stability, co-operation and development in Asia-Pacific region and the world.

Minh, who is also the Foreign Minister, expressed his satisfaction with positive progress in Viet Nam-US relations in many fields including politics, trade, education and defence. Collaboration between the two countries at regional and international forums had also been strengthened, he said.

He said the comprehensive partnership that the two countries established a year ago had boosted bilateral ties.

Medeiros said that his visit, assigned by President Obama, sought to speed up development of bilateral ties and strengthen co-operation on several regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement and the East Sea crisis.

At the same day, Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh held a reception for Evan Medeiros, an emissary of the US President, in Ha Noi. —VNS
