HA NOI (VNS) — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung called for education and infrastructure improvements targeted at ethnic minority groups during a working session in Ha Noi yesterday.

Saying the Party and State highly valued the groups' interests, he asked the National Assembly's Ethnic Council and the Government's Committee for Ethnic Affairs to check on the implementation of existing policies, many of which had not yet come to fruition due to poor co-ordination and supervision and resource shortages.

PM Dung also asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment and Finance Ministry to arrange resources so that ethnic minorities could fully benefit from the policies.

The Committee for Ethnic Affairs suggested the government design long-term policies and multi-sectoral projects for the 2016-2020 period.

Viet Nam now has 130 policies targeting ethnic communities that the committee said had both helped improve individual lives and strengthened national unity. — VNS
