HA NOI (VNS)— Viet Nam has asked the US to continue its environmental protection assistance, especially in mitigating climate change.

At a reception yesterday in Ha Noi, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with US Environmental Protection Agency administrator Gina McCarthy to seek further US support.

Phuc highly appreciated the US's contributions to the Lower Mekong Initiative, which helped narrow the development gap, protect the environment and connect Southeast Asian countries.

McCarthy, who was visiting Viet Nam to study the challenges the country faces in dealing with climate change, confirmed the US would strengthen its support in the field. She suggested further co-operation and exchange of information about environmental management. — VNS
