HA NOI (VNS)— A groundbreaking ceremony for the Viet Nam- China Friendship Palace project was held in Ha Noi yesterday.
The palace covers an area of 3.3ha at Le Quang Dao Boulevard, Tu Liem District.
The project is estimated to cost about 140 million Yuan (US$22.8 million) and is expected to be completed in 20 months.
The site for the palace was identified during the visit of Wen Jiabao to Viet Nam in October 2004.
The palace is a significant political and cultural project and a vivid symbol of the friendship between Viet Nam and China in the new era.
Addressing the ceremony, Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Chairman Vu Xuan Hong said the project was the Chinese Government's gift to the Vietnamese people where they could perform friendship and cultural exchange activities between the two countries and other international events.
Chinese Ambassador to Viet Nam Luo Linquan said the palace project aims to promote mutual understanding, co-operation and deepen the friendship between the two neighbouring nations. — VNS
