HA NOI (VNS)— Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will today attend the 23rd ASEAN Summit in Brunei's capital Bandar Seri Begawan at the invitation of the country's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.
The three-day meeting is taking place at a time when ASEAN is particularly determined to step up community building, connectivity and its focus on the people of the region.
Major topics to be discussed at the summit include the building and operation of the ASEAN Community in the run up to 2015 and beyond.
Participants will also touch on the bloc's co-operation with its partners within the frameworks of the ASEAN Plus One, ASEAN Plus Three and East Asian Summit (EAS), as well as considering international and regional issues of mutual concern.
Viet Nam has taken an active part in all ASEAN activities during 2013 as part of its policy of being "active, proactive and responsible" in its role within the bloc.
The country has made important contributions to mapping ASEAN's development vision through its influence in significant decision making.
It has promoted the group's decisive role in fostering peace, security, stability and co-operation in Southeast Asia as well as facilitating its relations with external partners.
