National funeral to honour late General Giap

HA NOI (VNS) — A National funeral will be held for General Vo Nguyen Giap, who passed away at 6:09pm on October 4, age 103.

The General's coffin will lie in state at the National Funeral Home at No. 5, Tran Thanh Tong Street , Hanoi .

Mourners will pay respect to General Giap at the funeral home from 7:30 hr on October 12, and a memorial service will be held at the site from 7:00 hr on October 13.

He will be buried the same day in his home province of Quang Binh , in line with the wish of the General and his family.

The memorial and burial services will be broadcast live by Vietnam Television and Radio the Voice of Vietnam.

Respect-paying and memorial services will also be held at the office of the Quang Binh provincial People's Committee and the Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City at the same time with the ceremonies in Hanoi.

During the two-day funeral, from 12:00hr on October 11 to 12:00hr on October 13, all State offices and public facilities will fly the national flag at half-mast and all entertainment activities will be stopped.

 Party chief leads funeral committee for General Giap 

A 30-member committee, led by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, has been established to organise the national funeral of General Vo Nguyen Giap slated for October 11-13.

Members of the committee include President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee's Secretariat Le Hong Anh and President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front cum Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan. —VNS
