JAKARTA (VNS)— Energy ministers from 18 East Asian countries on Thursday issued a joint statement on the importance of fostering regional co-operation to improve energy security as member countries forecast to consume 70 percent of the world's energy by 2035.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Le Duong Quang headed the Vietnamese delegation to the event.
Participants agreed on the necessity to prospect renewable energy and bio-fuel market in the region; and encouraged their application in transport and other sectors.
The meeting lauded Japan's proposal to hold an energy summit next year, with the participation of the private sector. The eighth meeting will be held in Laos next year. — VNS
