BUCHAREST (VNS) — Viet Nam and Romania have agreed to tighten their co-ordination at UN bodies, international forums, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the community of French-speaking countries for peace and stability in the region.

The agreement came following talks between Viet Nam's Politburo member and National Assembly Vice Chairperson Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Romanian Senate Vice President Cristian Dumitrescu during Ngan's official visit to Romania from September 3-7.

Ngan expressed her belief that Romania's integration into the European Union would contribute to promoting co-operation between the two countries as well as between Viet Nam and the EU.

She also took the occasion to call on Romania to support Viet Nam during its process of Free Trade Agreement negotiations with the EU.

After briefing her host on Viet Nam's socio-economic situation and the National Assembly's performance, Ngan suggested the two sides continue to share experiences and enhance the political relationship.

For his part, Dumitrescu said Romania would do its best to boost ties between Viet Nam and the EU. He also said Romania always considered Viet Nam as its bridge to other Southeast Asian countries.

During the meeting, the two sides applauded the continuous development of their traditional friendship and multi-faceted co-operation over the past 63 years since Viet Nam and Romania established diplomatic ties. — VNS
