HA NOI (VNS)— Former Politburo member Ho Duc Viet passed away on Friday evening at the age of 66 at the 108 Military Central Hospital in Ha Noi, after suffering from prolonged serious illness.
Viet, who was also former Secretary of the Party Central Committee and former head of the Party Central Committee's Organisation Commission, will be given a State funeral.
His coffin will be laid at the National Funeral Home in Ha Noi, where his funeral will be held today.
Viet was a native of Quynh Doi Commune, Quynh Luu District in the central province of Nghe An.
He was also a National Assembly deputy during the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th tenures.
For his contributions towards the development of the Communist Party and the country, Viet was granted a first-class Independence Order, first-class Labour Order, and a 40-year Party membership badge, among other prestigious awards. — VNS
