Viet Nam refutes US human rights report

Update: April, 22/2013 - 09:50

HA NOI (VNS)— Foreign ministry spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi yesterday refuted the findings in the 2012 US global human rights report.

Nghi reaffirmed Viet Nam's consistent policies on promoting and respecting the rights of all residents and that all residents were allowed to practice their rights within the law.

Viet Nam noted that the report, despite acknowledging some progress in Viet Nam's human rights record, did not provide an objective picture of human rights in Viet Nam. This would not help to promote the relationship between the two countries, he said.

Nghi said Viet Nam hoped that straight and constructive dialogues like the one in April 12 would provide a better perspective on the human rights situation in both countries. — VNS
