Combat alliance with Laos marked

Update: December, 13/2012 - 09:54

VIENTIANE (VNS)— A meeting to mark the Viet Nam-Laos traditional combat alliance was held yesterday in Sepon district, Savannakhet province, Laos.

Addressing the event, Bounhang Vorachit, Vice President and Head of the National "Laos-Viet Nam Friendship Year" Steering Committee, stressed that the friendship year between the two countries had become an important socio-political event.

It helped educate and train Laos cadres, Party members and people, especially the younger generation, to have a deeper awareness of the tradition, importance and the need to further consolidate the special friendship, solidarity and comprehensive co-operation between Laos and Viet Nam, he said.

The Lao People's Revolutionary Party, State and people would continue to protect the special friendship and solidarity fostered by generations of Vietnamese and Lao heroes, soldiers and people, said Vorachit, who is also Politburo member and permanent member of the LPRP Central Committee Secretariat.

It would be everlasting for future generations, he said.

For his part, Le Hong Anh, politburo member and permanent member of the Communist Party of Viet Nam's Central Committee Secretariat, affirmed that Viet Nam and Laos were two close neighbouring countries, the peoples of which had a long-lasting traditional friendship.

Following the two countries' complete liberation in 1975, Viet Nam-Laos relations turned a new historical page – from an alliance of combat to comprehensive co-operation between two independent and sovereign countries, said Anh. — VNS
