HA NOI (VNS)— National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said yesterday that he hoped Viet Nam and Thailand would soon upgrade their bilateral relations to strategic status.

Hung was talking after a meeting in the capital with the Deputy Chairman of the Thai Senate, Surachai Liengboolertchai.

Surachai, who was heading a Thai delegation, said he believed that both legislations could further their cooperation potential.

In a meeting with NA Deputy Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, both sides re-affirmed their commitments to building up the ASEAN Community by 2015.

They also agreed to increase exchanges of high-level officials and members of the legislative bodies because they would oversee the implementation of agreements between the two governments. — VNS
