President calls for closer Japan ties

Update: December, 05/2012 - 10:00

HA NOI (VNS)— Viet Nam would welcome the opportunity to work further with Japan to raise the effectiveness of aviation co-operation and quality of human resources, President Truong Tan Sang said yesterday while receiving a delegation from Japan People's Diplomacy Association, headed by the group's vice president Nakagaki.

He said Viet Nam was making efforts to settle bad loans, review its investment and business environment and shift its processing economy into a manufacturing one.

The Japanese government's support has helped Viet Nam make strides in many fields, the president said, and co-operation between the two countries via Official Development Assistance (ODA), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the increase of two-way trade turnover has led to important achievements.

Nakagaki said he believed Viet Nam's economy would make more progress and the country's relevant ministries and agencies would keep working with Japan to implement practical projects.

He also suggested that Viet Nam create favourable conditions for organisations and unions from both countries to hold meetings to boost their solidarity and mutual understanding. Japan, Nakagaki emphasized, would welcome the opportunity to host Vietnamese delegations for working visits. — VNS
