UNICEF pledges further co-operation with Viet Nam

HA NOI (VNS)— The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) pledged to continue working with Viet Nam's National Assembly to implement educational and protective programmes for Vietnamese children.

The affirmation was made by UNICEF chief representative in Viet Nam Lotta Sylwander while meeting with National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong in Ha Noi yesterday.

Sylwander applauded Viet Nam's determination in addressing children's issues, saying that the country has recorded encouraging achievements in that domain.

Highly valuing UNICEF's assistance, Phong said that the agency has served as a bridge for Viet Nam to access international experience in the field.

She expressed her hope that the agency would continue helping the country effectively implement projects within the cooperation framework between Viet Nam and UNICEF in the 2012-16 period, focusing on reforming legal documents on child protection and improving the competence of the agencies that implement those laws. — VNS
