HA NOI (VNS)— President Truong Tan Sang yesterday praised the role that the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) has played in strengthening economic, trade and investment ties between the two countries.

Meeting with chamber chairman Tadashi Okamura in Ha Noi, Sang said he hoped it would continue to encourage Japanese businesses to invest more in Viet Nam, particularly in areas of high technology, infrastructure, human resources development and the environment.

The President said that despite the changes in the global political and economic situation in recent years, the strategic partnership between Viet Nam and Japan had developed unceasingly.

He spoke highly of the large amount of official development assistance (ODA) that Japan, a leading investor and the largest bilateral donor of Viet Nam, had offered to the country.

Okamura said his organisation, as a top economic agency in Japan with more than one million members, was stepping up policies to support small-and-medium-sized enterprises to boost investment in various countries, including Viet Nam.

The increasing number of Japanese enterprises operating in Viet Nam was clear evidence of this, he added.

The chairman also said that he would exert more effort to strengthen economic, investment and trade co-operation between the two countries. — VNS
