HA NOI (VNS) — Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi yesterday sent condolences to his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh for the heavy losses of both human lives and property caused by recent floods in several central provinces.
On the same day, Chinese Ambassador to Viet Nam Kong Xuanyou presented US$10,000 to the Viet Nam Red Cross as a relief aid for the flood victims.
Chairman of the Viet Nam Red Cross Central Committee Nguyen Hai Duong thanked the Chinese diplomat for the gift.
On August 17, the storm Kai Tak swept through northern provinces and destroyed thousands of houses and flooded more than 1,400 ha of farming produce in provinces of Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Quang Ninh. A total of 27 people were killed and 15 others were injured or missing, according to the Red Cross. — VNS
