Taiwan warned to halt illegal activity

HA NOI — Viet Nam has demanded that Taiwan put an immediate stop to its illegal activities in the Ban Than Shoal in Viet Nam's Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Luong Thanh Nghi issued the warning yesterday when asked for Viet Nam's reaction to high-ranking Taiwanese officials' planting their flag and claiming sovereignty over the Ban Than Shoal in Viet Nam's Truong Sa archipelago.

He said: "This is a serious violation of Viet Nam's territorial sovereignty over the Truong Sa archipelago, causing tensions and complicating the situation in the East Sea.

"The Vietnamese side resolutely opposes and requests Taiwan immediately stop these wrongdoings and take no further activities to complicate the situation in Truong Sa area."—VNS
