DA NANG — The 124th handover of missing American servicemen's remains who died during the war in Viet Nam was held at Da Nang International Airport on Friday.
Vietnamese officials handed over two boxes of remains to US dignitaries, which were recovered during the 108th Joint Field Activities from August to September this year.
The remains were jointly reviewed and concluded by Vietnamese and American forensic specialists and recommended to be brought to Hawaii, the US, for further examination.
Representatives from the Viet Nam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP), the United States Ambassador to Viet Nam, David B. Shear, and representatives from the Defence Attache at the US Embassy in Ha Noi, the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) and the US MIA Office in Ha Noi all attended the repatriation ceremony.
At the event, the US government representatives expressed deep gratitude and high appreciation for the steadfast humanitarian policy, goodwill and increasingly efficient co-operation of the Viet Nam Government and people. — VNS
