PM fetes world diplomatic corps

HA NOI — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highlighted the significant role of foreign diplomats and representatives of international organisations in Ha Noi in promoting their countries' and organisations' relations with Viet Nam for the positive development of all nations around the world, in the name of peace, friendship and co-operation.

At a banquet given to the foreign diplomatic corps in Ha Noi yesterday to mark the 67th National Day of Viet Nam, PM Dung took the occasion to thank governments and people worldwide, foreign ambassadors, has been active in comprehensively integrating into the region and the world, making valuable contributions to international forums including ASEAN, the East Asia Summit (EAS), the Non-Aligned Movement and other forums within the United Nations, said the PM.

Viet Nam continued to implement the pledges it took when it joined the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to accelerate its regional economic cooperation and participate in the negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, he added.

He said he hoped Viet Nam would receive further support, assistance and cooperation from international friends.

Venezuelan Ambassador Jorge Rondon Uzcategui, who is acting head of the diplomatic corps, congratulated Viet Nam on its National Day.

He said diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and the international community are developing with the opening of new foreign embassies in the country and the establishment of Viet Nam's diplomatic agencies worldwide.

In addition, Viet Nam has set up bridges of friendship, solidarity and cooperation with many regions, he said, adding that this active diplomatic policy can be attributed to Viet Nam's position as a responsible member of the international community with commitments to international integration, peace, cooperation, development and multilateralism.

He wished Viet Nam success in achieving its goal of becoming a prosperous developed nation.

The same day, the HCM City leaders also held a meeting with more than 180 representatives from diplomatic agencies and non-governmental organisations in the city on the occasion of Viet Nam's National Day. — VNS
