HA NOI — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said here yesterday that Viet Nam always attached importance to strengthening mutual ties with the Republic of Korea.
Dung was addressing a gathering to welcome the South Korean Minister for Trade of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Bark Tae-ho.
The PM spoke highly of the outcome of talks between Bark and the Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade, Vu Huy Hoang, especially the opening of negotiations on a bilateral free-trade agreement.
He said this was an important contribution to the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Dung urged the South Korean ministry to continue creating conditions for Vietnamese goods, especially farm products, to penetrate the Korean market.
He also encouraged Korean retailers to put Vietnamese goods on sale at their chain stores.
Bark said he valued Viet Nam's achievements in curbing inflation and stabilising the macro economy.
Expressing pleasure at the start of RoK-Viet Nam FTA negotiations, he said that during his visit, the two sides had agreed on measures to increase two-way trade and ensure trade was balanced.
The completion of FTA negotiations would help fulfil the goal of bringing two-way trade between the RoK and Viet Nam to US$25 billion by 2015, he added. — VNS
