HA NOI — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked the World Bank to continue providing preferential loans to Viet Nam.

Receiving the bank's vice president for the East Asia and Pacific region, Pamela Cox, in Ha Noi yesterday, Dung pledged to take drastic measures to accelerate the disbursement of funding and increase the efficiency of the use of capital.

Dung thanked the bank for its policy consultation and capital lending.

He said despite achievements, Viet Nam had yet to achieve sustainable economic growth, and poverty still remained a problem.

Therefore, the country continued to need assistance in terms of advice and capital to sustain its development and avoid the "middle income trap", Dung said.

Cox spoke highly of Viet Nam's socio-economic achievements, particularly the Government's policies to curb inflation and stabilise the macro-economy.

She affirmed the bank would always be side by side with Viet Nam in the process of development, adding that she found Viet Nam has used bank loans effectively.

On the same day, Cox met with National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. — VNS
