Viet Nam, Laos foster ties in science, technology

HA NOI – Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met Lao Minister of Science and Technology Boviengkham Vongdara yesterday to discuss bilateral co-operation in the science sector.

Boviengkham Vongdara, who is also President of the Lao National Science Council, briefed his host about the results of the Lao delegation's meetings with leaders from various Vietnamese ministries and agencies.

He expressed hope that the two sides will continue to exchange information and experiences, especially research that can be applied in everyday life, contributing to technological transfer the will benefit socio-economic development in both countries.

He stressed the need for the two countries to enhance co-operation in human resource development, especially science-technology managers and post-graduate lecturers.

Sharing Boviengkham Vongdara's views, Phuc said the two countries need to select suitable training methods to provide higher returns.

The Vietnamese Deputy PM affirmed the Vietnamese Government's support for co-operation plans between the two ministries of science and technology.

It is necessary for the two sides to promote the transfer of technology and scientific application of production at localities, especially those located along the border, with the aim of raising people's living standards, Phuc said. The Lao minister is on a working visit to Viet Nam from July 20-26. — VNS
