President hails achievements of People's Police on 50th anniversary

HA NOI — President Truong Tan Sang praised the efforts and achievements the People's Police made over the past 50 years in a ceremony marking the 50th annual People's Police Day in Ha Noi yesterday.

The Party, State and people have consistently acknowledged the sacrifices, feats of arms and contributions to the nation's revolution made by the police, Sang said.

In the context of globalisation and international integration, police have also been presented with many challenges, he said. Police have fulfilled their task of serving the Party, State and authorities at all levels and bringing into full play the key role they keep among the people in combating crime, safeguarding national security and maintaining social order.

However, the police must strengthen their relationships with the people and fight negative and authoritarian phenomena in their work, Sang said.

He expressed his belief that the police would continue to uphold their glorious traditions and help the country to reach its goals of industrialisation and modernisation.

Also yesterday, on behalf of the Party and State, Sang presented the Ho Chi Minh Order to the General Police Department for Crime Prevention and the General Police Department for Managing Social Order and Safety. — VNS
