VN Finance Minister offers Laos expertise

VIENTIANE — Vietnamese Finance Minister Vuong Dinh Hue said that his ministry was ready to share its expertise and provide assistance to Laos ‘ Finance Ministry during his visit to Vientiane yesterday.

Minister Hue said both ministries were determined to boost comprehensive co-operation, with a focus on drafting laws and strategies and personnel training for the financial sector.

Receiving Minister Hue in Vientiane yesterday, Lao Prime Minister Thongsin Thammavong said he hoped both ministries would step up the exchange of professional expertise, especially in personnel training and planning.

During the four-day visit that ends today, Hue's delegation attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a project to upgrade Northern Laos College of Finance in Luang Prabang and visited the Dongkhamsang Financial and Economic Institute during the second phase of its construction, and hold the fifth meeting between the two ministries.

He discussed ways of bolstering bilateral financial co-operation with his Lao counterpart, Phuphet Khamphunvong.

Both sides said their financial co-operation had recorded positive results, especially the Vietnamese Government's loans and aid to Laos in training and investment.

They agreed that bilateral co-operation and loan agreements had met the urgent demands from both their financial sectors in the integration process and helped Laos to raise its financial capabilities.

They agreed to enhance co-operation in training and drawing up financial regulations and to exchange their experiences in economic management.

The two sides also signed a credit agreement. — VNS
