HA NOI — Leaders of the central province of Khanh Hoa and the city of Da Nang have raised their voices in opposition to China's decision to establish a new administrative unit that includes the Vietnamese Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) islands.
The Truong Sa islands district was an inseparable part of Vietnamese territory and under the administrative control of the central Vietnamese province of Khanh Hoa, said Khanh Hoa provincial People's Committee chairman Nguyen Chien Thang.
The government and people of Khanh Hoa Province were discontented with the Chinese decision to form the so-called Sansha city, Thang said, stressing the act of no legal value has seriously violated Viet Nam's sovereignty.
"We strongly oppose and demand that China quash the wrongful and illegal decision, and take no further action detrimental to bilateral ties and the friendship between the two countries," he said.
The chairman of the Da Nang municipal People's Committee, Van Huu Chien, also said that the islands district of Hoang Sa was an inseparable part of Vietnamese territory under the administrative control of the central city of Da Nang. He strongly opposed the Chinese action and urge China to rescind it and take no further action that would damage relations between the two countries. — VNS
