HA NOI — Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has asked new Vietnamese ambassadors and chief representatives overseas to consolidate knowledge and political firmness for national construction and defence.
At a reception for the newly appointed in the capital yesterday, Trong called on each to promote Party and State guidelines and policies on independence, self-control, diversification and multilateralisation, both in internal and external affairs, to fulfil the goal of creating a peaceful and stable environment.
Trong reminded them to be vigilant of traps and temptations, stressing the need to develop relations with their host countries to help popularise the national image.
Given the country's global integration efforts and an increasing number of overseas Vietnamese, ambassadors and chief representatives need to pay more attention to community-based activities and citizenship protection, Trong said.
He also urged each to uphold solidarity and build strong and transparent Party organisations according to the Resolution of the 11th National Party Congress.
Ambassadors and chief representatives pledged to do their best to increase understanding and cooperation with their host countries in a more practical and effective manner for the benefit of the nation. — VNS
