The statement was made during his meeting with Peruvian Prime Minister Oscar Eduardo Valdes Dancuart in Lima on Monday.

Hai expressed satisfaction with the progress in the two countries' relations over the past years.

PM Dancuart said the Vietnamese Deputy Minister's official trip would help strengthen their multi-faceted relations in the future.

The two sides agreed that in past years, they had been active members of the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement and worked closely together in the Forum for East Asia – Latin America Co-operation. This historical friendship serves as a solid base to strengthen their relations further.

They also spoke highly of Peruvian President Ollanta Humala's official trip to Viet Nam this year and of the exchange visits between the two countries' high-ranking officials. Peru said it would soon officially recognise Viet Nam as a market economy and open an embassy in the country.

The two sides emphasised that they would continue to support each other on the international stage.

Hai appreciated the Peruvian government's support for the two countries' trade, economic and investment projects in recent years, which had created favourable conditions for their bilateral trade value to reach US$165 million last year from $55.3 million in 2006.

He also said that Vietnamese enterprises had been implementing important investment projects in Peru.

Dancuart stressed that Peru's government always created favourable conditions for Vietnamese projects in Peru, especially those of PetroVietnam (PVN) and Viettel which had already been implemented.

On the same day, Hai met with leaders of the Peruvian Foreign Ministry. They discussed the establishment of Peru's diplomatic representative agency in Viet Nam and the possibility of Viet Nam hosting the Ministerial Forum on Trade and Investment on July 5-7 to boost its trade relations with Latin American countries.

Earlier, Hai headed a Vietnamese high-ranking delegation that paid working visits to some oil industry enterprises in Peru.

He stressed the need for economic co-operation, especially in the oil industry, in order to build the long-lasting relations between Viet Nam and Peru suggested the two countries' oil industries should enhance their co-operative projects. — VNS
