HA NOI — National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung received Myanmar President Thein Sein in Ha Noi yesterday.
At the reception, the NA Chairman congratulated Myanmar on being granted full membership to the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly would do its utmost to foster co-operation with the neighbouring country.
He agreed with the President's proposal to strengthen bilateral ties in all areas, saying that Viet Nam and Myanmar should boost co-operation in trade, security and defence.
The two parliaments should set up Viet Nam-Myanmar friendship groups, creating favourable conditions for deepening the two countries' relationship, he suggested.
President Thein Sein said his visit aimed to further strengthen and consolidate the co-operation between the two nations.
He noted positive developments in bilateral trade, saying that more and more Vietnamese investors were becoming interested in Myanmar.
He affirmed that Myanmar would try its best to boost co-operation between the two ruling Parties, States and peoples. — VNS
