HA TINH — An agreement to enhance co-operation between Vietnamese and Lao foreign ministries during 2012-17 was signed in the central province of Ha Tinh yesterday.
The signing, undertaken by Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Lao Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, took place when the two ministries met for their sixth friendship exchange meetings March 17-20.
The two sides reviewed the relations progress between the two countries and ministries since the fifth exchange in Vientiane in June 2008.
Both expressed their delight to see the growing bilateral ties, particularly on aspects of politics, national defence, security, economics, education and human resources.
They also agreed to hold many practical and significant events during the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship Solidarity Year 2012, the 50th anniversary of setting up diplomatic ties and 35th year of signing the Friendship and Co-operation Convention.
The two sides spoke highly of their bodies' fruitful co-operation, which had helped spur the national ties for peace, stability in the region and the world, and the prosperity of ASEAN Community. — VNS
