HA NOI — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung urged Vietnamese veterans across the country to continue their emulation campaigns and family support efforts.
Speaking at a meeting with the Veterans Association of Viet Nam (VAVN) in the capital yesterday, Dung praised its achievements, which have contributed to the country's socio-economic development.
"The association should promote its role in taking care of and protecting the rights and interests of veterans," Dung said, calling on the association to further improve the quality of its activities and development.
The PM gave instructions on the VAVN's proposals of examining, certifying and arranging the priorities for veterans infected by toxic chemicals during the Anerican War, the implementation of Decree 78/ND-CP on providing preferential loans to poor people and the free supply of veteran newspapers and newsletters in mountainous and remote regions.
President of the VAVN Lieutenant General Tran Hanh presented Dung with the association's most valuable insignia.
The VAVN network has reached more than 2.6 million veterans nationwide. — VNS
