HA NOI — Any amendments to the 1992 Constitution must comply with the rule that all State power belongs to the people, said National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.
He made the statement at the third meeting of the committee responsible for drafting such changes yesterday.
Committee members reviewed the draft report on the 1992 Constitution and suggested alterations to ensure synchronic renewal in both politics and economy, in accordance with current development needs.
Such efforts will ensure that State power remains in the hands of the people during the country's development and affirms the leadership of the Party in the protection and respect of human rights.
The committee affirmed that amendments would contribute to building a socialist-oriented market economy, developing culture, education, science and technology, ensuring social equality, and institutionalising policies on national defence and social security as well as international integration.
The committee praised relevant agencies for their objective, comprehensive and prompt review of Constitution implementation.
Hung asked members to pay attention to opinions aired at the meeting and effectively adjust the draft report on further implementation initiatives. — VNS
